i love reading. i love throwing myself into a book, into an entirely new world.
books help me escape. i walk in someone else’s shoes, experience someone else’s reality. for a moment, i forget who i am.
everything else fades away, if you do it right. in the end, it’s just you and the story; the meaning you prescribe to it is yours to know alone. i think that’s beautiful.
i always feel relieved, like the weight on my shoulders is being lifted with every letter i read. i know it’s bad to distract myself from my problems, but i like to call it coping.
it’s coping.

Going down with Dignity
When I start to fall Don't try to hold me tight Just let my memory go And let me fade into the night Darkness doesn't scare me The only thing that does Is...
this reminds me of a quote I heard, " those who say we have only one life to live, never opened a book"
ReplyIts good to have social life too :)
ReplyI am a major bookworm and felt you were saying my thoughts just then. I agree, it is a coping mechanism. But I have learnt that you also need to learn to cope outside of books. Books are not always handy in a time of crisis. For example, if you were stressing out at work or not having a good day, you can not simply stop working and read a book. Find another method of coping... just in case. I found singing is my other escape (and luckily I am not self conscious so I can sing where ever, and people just feel bad if they try to stop someone singing so don't hold back!). I realise this is not a resolution for everyone, just as books don't help everyone escape.
But, like many crime fiction books say, you need more then one escape route.
