1. allow users to comment anonymously after logged in
2. allow guests to delete comments (like how guest can delete a post)
3. allow users to follow/subscribe to specific users
Some users make really good advice to op and it's helpful to see how they handle different problems
This is also why users should be able to comment anonymously, so they won't be followed.
4. allow users to invite some users for advice/ answer your questions.
5. enable page number instead of infinite scrolling.
Infinite scrolling is discouraging for people to make a comment.
I have made some suggestions before but I see no improvement, so I would like to give some comments about it.
novni was on pateron before but it wasn't successful. I think one of the major reasons is that you didn't gather users' opinions. Everyone has different opinions about what should be improved on novni. In order for a crowdfunding to be successful, you should gather or have clear goals, about what to improve, which matters to most or many users.
Therefore, last but not least,
6. Add a feedback section, in addition to news feed, subscriptions and other current functions.
Even if you are not looking for crowdfunding, it's always a good idea to gather users' opinions about the website for future development.
If you see a comment that is unsupportive or unfriendly, please report it using the flag button.
7. Allow comments to be flagged for duplicate
Reply7. Allow comments to be flagged for duplicate
ReplyI see what you did there 🙂 our mods look out for duplicate comments, so feel free to flag them like any other comment and we’ll take care of them.
ReplyThese are great suggestions, thank you for sharing them with us 🙂
Regarding 6, we do have a feedback function that pops up occasionally for registered users, or at least it’s supposed to. Has that ever come up for you?
ReplyI think I didn't see the feedback function, but I would suggest a member-only feedback section for open discussion so members can exchange opinions.
ReplyThat’s a good idea. We have a problem though, in that at the moment we have volunteer moderators only and don’t have any money to hire a team to build new features. We do however maintain a list of suggestions, and hope to be able to work on some of them at some point.
ReplyI think you can just post a link for direct (paypal) donation or something like that, although that probably won't help much in short term. And maybe if you can pin a post of what are your current goals of development and how you are going to do it
ReplyI suggest that you change the orange bar to number of people who viewed as numbers and introduce a like, and subscribe button.
The like button for all and subscribe button for members.
ReplyThanks for the suggestion. One thing we’re cautious about is bringing any notion of popularity into Novni. Likes for example is a common feature of other social networks that can make people feel good and bad, and can even make us write differently in an attempt to get more of them.
I wonder if we can improve the orange bar without turning it into a popularity contest.
ReplyYeah I understand what you said so how about something that um.......we like about the post or something like that.
And maybe you could simply turn the orange bar into example: '35 views' so that people know how many people looked at the post.
Replywhat he meant is he doesn't want people use view number as something like validation.
Reply8. Allow users the ability to delete their own accounts.
Reply9. More active people. I only get like 1 or 2 notifications but maybe it is just I am pretty new to this website.
ReplyThese are all great ideas. You're right that Novni had a patreon in the past and all potential funding was going to go towards these kinds of ideas + a mobile app. Users weren't willing to pay to help fund novni so they didn't have the $ to develop these great ideas. If novni was funded by its most dedicated users it would be able to create these ideas. Maybe we can try to get it funded still somehow?
