I know I am late to this but I needed to crap post anyway since I am in neutral mood right now and I am really bored also I am not making an argument, I am just pointing out the problems.
So, these Boomers or whatever old generation they are whom are the COPPA people, they are attacking YouTube content creators because their content isn't kid-friendly when their content is "appealing" to kids. What is appealing to kids? Anything that a child likes: Slang words, toys, snacks and cereal and candy and other kid's foods, video games, cartoons, bright and vibrant colors, words like "Kids only", "Ask your parents..." , "Fun", etc.
For me personally, I think this is B.S because I am 18 years old and I still love video games, Pokemon cartoons, kid-friendly movies, cereal, candy, snacks, and most of people in my high school uses slang words still.
These people in COPPA doesn't know how the internet works and they probably never had internet in their childhood years but they are still going to treat internet as a very dangerous bad invention. Just like parents treating the smartphones like monsters controlling their kid's minds.
To even be on the internet, you need to be smart enough, mature enough, and strong enough to handle stuff on the internet. The internet is very huge, including the deep web/dark web and there is no way that any law can control the whole internet. This means parents have to actually monitor their child's behavior on the internet and stop letting the internet babysit their child because then the parents complain about why their child knows how to curse now or why their child saw something disgusting on their device. Also another problem, children keep going to stuff that isn't in their age limit. This also creates problems for both parents and people who are in the age limit. People in the age limit have to deal with annoying, bratty little kids in a 18+ video games or 13+ social media.
"But I don't act like those kids and I am # years old." It doesn't matter, rules are rules. Today, me and my dad and brother went to the city dump to get rid of old computers and there was a sign that says something like, "All children must remain in the vehicle at all times. " Even if you are mature and smart enough to not wander around the dump and get hurt by heavy machinery, if you are a child, you have to remain in the car.
In conclusion, children needs to follow the rules, even if they think that it is stupid or dumb and parents needs to stop being lazy snobs and blaming everything but themselves and COPPA needs to stop blindly thinking and judging that the internet is too unsafe for kids.
I swear, everything is getting too soft now, no one will learn anything if there is no mistakes. A mistake of downloading a virus, a mistake of being scammed, a mistake of telling a "friend" your home address, school, city in a state of country, etc.

After I found out about coppa it makes me think itll be the end of youtube because it seems like artists cant win either way from what I've heard. Even reducing the amount they make on vids by like 90 percent and if a vid isnt kid friendly and you say it is you pay a fine upto $40,000 per video and vice versa. Im glad now I never even made a channel though i thought about it. Its just dumb. YouTube will self destruct and become a wasteland if coppa isnt changed. It will be like MySpace 10 years from now. I guess if you want your own vids youll most likely have to go to another site and postthem. Like I said coppa is really dumb. Parents can control their children or restrict youtube access or idk its just crazy.
ReplyYeah, I know. Thank goodness I didn't create YouTube videos but have thought about it before.
This is why I like to avoid popular sites and look for alts.
