So, this year, no in the past quarter alone two of my phones got stolen. This will be like a trauma until I’m sure this won’t happen again. Both went the same way actually, in a bus. And look at the coincidences. Same day (4th of some month and 4th of 2 months later), around the same time, and in the same way. You can laugh at that.
But this got me wondering, is there any way to actually prevent this. Cause, the way to finding a lost phone is extremely difficult. Even if you have the IMEI number of your phone, if the phone is switched off or not connected to the network it will be practically be useless.
My first idea was a case that will ring when it receives a signal from a remote like device. Brilliant, right? You can laugh at this as well. This is just too complicated.
The first objective of a criminal after stealing a phone is to switch it off. This prevents all kind of tracking and gives him time to get away. This is bad. So, the simple solution will be to prevent the phone from switching off. We just need to make a software change such that the phone will require a password to switch off. With this we will have enough time to make it ring in case it goes missing.
You might say, there is a way around it. Like what if the criminal removes the SIM, then it still wouldn’t matter cause the phone will be off the grid. But this can be avoided if we also require a password to remove SIM. This will be like a 10 – 20 second timer after the SIM is removed, if we put the password, it won’t ring otherwise it will ring uncontrollably.
This is a really simple solution which might help reduce the risk of phone getting stolen, or help prevent it completely.
