I don't think parents ever feel the same about their disabled children as they do the non-impaired ones. My parents did not sign up for mental illness and physical disability... At least they got one good one so that not everyone is some sort of a potato.
I remember my mother telling me about the time when she first found out I had cerebral palsy and how she initially thought that meant I was retarded even though that didn't turn out to be the case. Still, she cried even just talking about it. Why? Disabilities make people inferior. No parent wants to produce sub-par offspring.
When it rains, it pours, I guess. If there were such a thing as God, I'd be nothing but a cruel joke on his part.

Perspective
Why did you reach out to me when you didn't have the bandwidth to help me? Why offer friendship when you were overwhelmed? Why be angry with me for trying to gi...
I hope you don't truly think of yourself this way.
I don't have a disability so obviously I don't have the same perspective that you do but I will tell you- my brother had muscular dystrophy and very very mild CP. He was on a ventilator the last 10 years of his life and it was hard. But my parents loved him and were insanely proud of him. Bragged about him all the time, all the things he did or tried in his too short life. And he made a huge difference in a lot of lives. I am a nurse with a degree in special education because he inspired me. I have art work he did hanging in my house. He has friends from a hockey league he was on that still keep in touch with me because they miss him.
Every person on this planet has things that are difficult for them. But if you're looking them in the face every day and still persevering- you are winning. You are never less-than. And I bet your parents would agree. ❤
ReplyYou have every right to be on this planet as every one else. So brighten up and don't feel down about yourself. Let your mother cry all she wants, it's your life that matters. Don't you cry. Lift yourself up and be happy and optimistic.
