I feel so overwhelmed and so confused. I am in the process of applying to college right now. There are so many things to do and to prepare and although things seem to be going well right now, I can't help feeling stressed out. It doesn't help that my dad wants me to go to the same school my cousin is in right now even though it isn't my dream school. But I guess I'm still lucky cause my dad says if I stay in the college he wants me to go to for a year he'll let me transfer if I end up disliking the college. I am aware that there are certain parents that just cross the line concerning things like that and I am lucky to have understanding parents. My dream school is actually Yale, but my dad might not let me apply there because he's afraid that i might not be able to handle the rigour, although I really feel that it is a school that suits me. In all honesty though, I don't know too much about Yale, all I know is that they have a good English program. I've seen several videos on Yale and I feel a connection with the school. The campus is very very beautiful as well. Another concern I have is with my school. I don't go to school in the US nor do I go to a fancy international school, so I'm quite stressed about the process of sending in my transcript due to the fact that my school's vice-principle who also handles communications aspects might not be able to send in my transcript. Due to that I might have to ask for a teacher to send it in. But on the brighter side of thing so far teachers in which I've asked to write recommendation letters have been super nice and helpful. I can't think of anything else to write, even though I still have other things that I'm worrying about lol! Writing this has actually helped understand my emotions more, which is super nice. Oh, gosh, I have to worry about the TOEFL!

ReplyHey! It will all be alright in the end, don’t worry! I just went through the college application process myself (I’m starting college in the fall), and let me tell you, it seems like endless stress but it will be over and you’ll be heading to college before you know it!! That being said, I have a few words of advice for you!!
1. Obviously this is just one person’s opinion, but I think Yale is an awesome school and you should definitely apply. I applied early action, got deferred and then rejected in the next round of admissions, but I don’t regret trying! Here’s why: I live in the US and I’ve visited almost all the Ivy League colleges (except Dartmouth and Brown) and I hated all of them except Yale! My dad knew a professor there and we hung out for the day, so I got to know the place very well. The environment there is super supportive. Yes, it will be intense but it’s more of students all working hard together instead of competing against each other. When I was interviewed for that school, my interviewer confirmed that and said that Yale is an intense, but highly supportive environment. I think you should apply—everyone has to have “reach schools”, and know that if you get in, you’ll be able to handle the rigor!!
2. Find yourself a safety school you like with rolling admissions! In the US, most colleges have a set schedule of when admissions decisions come out (usually the first round is December-February for early action or early decision and the second is March-April for regular decision). One thing that really helped me was getting into a safety school. On the admissions website, look for the term “rolling admissions,” this means they accept applicants as they read their applications. For example, I submitted my application to a school like this in November, and got in a few weeks later! This helped me a TON, because at the very least, you know you’re going SOMEWHERE early on! And that’s the best feeling once the actual stress of writing applications starts!
Good luck, and you can do this!! Applying to American schools as an international student is tough, but you’ll get through it!!
