Waiting on the precipice
For a new president
Notice new
We can't continue
One state would do
Agony and terror
That one man's cruelty and divisiveness
Will continue
And trickle
Down
Down
Down
For four more years
Effective
Unlike that economic theory
Dripping hatred and racism
Sexism and harassment
Into the minds
Of worshipping souls
Who see a Savior amid the muck
A swamp monster who would
Pull. The. Plug.
And drain the swamp
They can't see
Beyond
Their own
Rural places, smiling faces
The hurt goes unseen
Those in need unnoticed
Protect what is mine
Mine!
My guns
My land
My money
No understanding
Of billions
Of brackets
Of the brokenness their votes perpetuate
Empathy grows in cities
Under bridges
In apartment complexes
On the streets
They're different from me
That's scary
But maybe
Not as different as I thought
Like the Grinch coming down from the mountain
Into the village
Outside his bubble
Ignorance and racism beaten by proximity
Hearts growing
But.
We are HERE tonight.
In a world plagued by sickness
Not just the virus
Stuck under leadership
Who perpetuate the silence
It's all okay
There's no brutality
We don't see color
Masks are a choice
I'm angry
And scared
And waiting
