I told my mom how 1 in 10 teenagers involved themselves in domestically violent relationships, but rapists were almost never caught for one reason or another.
She told me to be a lawyer when I grew up.
I told my mom how people, ordinary people, stood up and left without a care in the world, leaving you behind shattered and heartbroken.
She told me to be a psychiatrist.
My mom's solution to everything is always: Be the light you want to see in the world. But I'm no Barbie, I'm not the solution to all the world's problems, and I shouldn't have to be. I'm just a kid.
So now when she asks me what I want to be when i grow up, I reply with the one word I doubt she expected.

ReplyYay! Off the top of my head, you can email it to opinion@nytimes.com But every news organization has an email. Try googling "how to submit op-ed" and you'll see a bunch of pages from the major newspapers. You should send it to all of them, it's that good!!
