i started prozac recently to treat my anixety and depression. When I was getting it prescribed, the doctor warned me that it could take a few weeks for it to help and until then it would probably make me feel a bit worse. So now as expected, I am feeling worse, but I'm realizing that maybe I should have waited a bit to start it because I forgot I was travelling somewhere and travelling makes me extremely anxious. So now I feel awful because I'm on the trip now and I feel very anxious and lonely and empty and it is significantly worse for 2 reasons: I started prozac recently and there are some items I usually bring with me when I travel to ease my anxiety but I could not find them so I do not have them with me this time. So I'm really struggling right now.
If someone could give me encouragement for the time until prozac stops making me feel worse, I would really appreciate it

Am I overreacting about my boyfriends comments with his friend?
My boyfriend (22) and I (21) have been dating for about a year and a half now. My boyfriend transferred to my college and that's how we met, so he doesn't have...

Need advice
So I appeared for an exam and didn't passed for it. All this phase I've been so down, disappointed and depressed. Seriously depressed. Working hard on something...
hey,
i’m also on prozac and personally i love it. it works so great for me. i think really just try and keep an open mind, it takes a few weeks to start really working. maybe you could need an increase. give it time! i’m sure things will fall into place :) good luck!!
ReplyMy advice don’t take it
Trust me as someone who’s been on that stuff
ReplyIt works different with everyone.
ReplyFind ways to be a little happier within yourself without it. You don’t want to numb yourself. Feeling nothing at all is horrible. And don’t even get me started on how it affects cognitive ability. Call me biased but that’s how it’s been for me.
ReplyI get how you feel honestly for anxiety try ask your doc for beta blockers a small dosage way better than Benzos and ssris
ReplyAlso alexithymia it brings with it if not completely making you apathetic. It can also cause amnesia. And CBI.
ReplyIt’s totally upto you though. It can make some people suicidal though. Honestly not one of the good options even when talking about SSRIs in particular.
ReplyYou’re amazing and you got this. Man it’s so hard but nobody’s you and you might not realise this but you’re so so great and you have the power to do so so much. You’re beautiful. It ain’t easy at all man. But it’ll be worth it in the end.
ReplyProzac diminishes empathy & you just don’t really know who you are being on it. Idk I guess you do you.
ReplyFirst of all, I see an individual who wants to exacerbate this anxiety you're feeling. The first rule of meds is that they work differently for everyone.
In terms of what you can do, this is where it gets kinda wacky when it comes to meds in general for psychotherapy. You're not doing anything you wouldn't otherwise do even without those meds.
Constantly reminding yourself that this specific side effect "could" be presenting is also a contributing factor to how anxious you get.
Just as a basic rule of thumb, if you find yourself feeling more anxious, take a breathe and try to focus on the physical sensations of breathing. Pay attention to your body, warmth, cold, comfort, pain.
Do this every time you feel yourself getting more anxious, not just once. Be compassionate to your thoughts and feelings. It's ok to be anxious. You know why you're anxious (travelling) so try to be compassionate about it.
"I know I'm anxious right now because I'm somewhere unfamiliar surrounded by people I don't know"
It if just the notion of traveling itself gives you that anxiety
"I know I'm anxious because I don't like being on the road too much"
Try to verify those reasons, whatever they may be, and to tell yourself that it's ok to feel this.
Being comfortable with your emotions and learning to accept them as they are is your first key in the entire spectrum of psychology. That's why they prescribe meds in the first place, to lessen the impact of the receptors in your brain.
Understanding all of it, combined, can help give you an understanding of how those meds impact you and why. Making it easier to understand the emotions themselves.
ReplyYou are not alone.
I was treated for a year, and have been off my meds for almost 2 months now.
It is very unsettling, but in order to overcome... you should try to learn more about yourself and how this affects you. It is different for everybody. Your concerns are valid.
I hope that you are thriving and living well :)
