Is it acceptable to start a go fund me for a teen to get away from an abusive parent? They’ll be 18 in two months, but their mom is so restrictive on them. Anything they do is wrong, the parent is always right, even when it’s most obviously wrong, and they always doubt everything, even when it’s proven to be right. They don’t let the teen go out and apply for good paying jobs bc they know it will make them successful. I just want that teen to get away from there. Any feedback? Or if you will help, comment and I’ll provide the link in the comments.

Sounds like a noble effort, but what's the goal? Rent money so the person can move out of the house? That might be a good idea, like trying to raise 3 months rent so the person can find independence and apply for jobs. The only thing to worry about is, would this person be strong enough to survive on their own, and what would happen if they can't find a job in 3 months? I'm just raising these questions because it sounds like the person has been so sheltered & controlled by the mother that they would have a tough time adapting to the real world. So maybe 3 months rent wouldn't be enough, it would have to be 6 months or even a year plus grocery & utility expenses (just to throw a number out there, $1000/month)? If you can raise it, and if you have faith in this person then I say go for it. They're an adult, and it sounds like they already have some good support from friends like you :)
ReplyNo that's not really something that people use go fund mes for, especially since the ones supporting dont know if thats what the money will be used for, personally I wouldn't donate, because leaving your parents house shouldn't be supported by gofundme. You should see if theres any programs or any services the teen can seek out for help to get housing, schooling and other things along those lines, even living in a shared house, like a basement or single room accomodation will help get the teen on their feet, If they have no car or license get them to get a place close to school and shopping.
ReplyIt is absolutely acceptable in my opinion
