Tomorrow is Christmas, and my mom tried to kill herself yesterday. She told me this morning. I was catching up on Christmas baking because we've been busy moving the last couple weeks. She asked me to do something this morning and I didn't because I wanted to bake treats for friends instead. This year I wanted them to have gifts to open on Christmas and not late as I usually am. When she came downstairs and I was baking she freaked. She broke down, scolded me and told me she wanted to die. My dad was in the dining room and looked up from his phone. We looked at each other in disbelief. My mom had never expressed these feelings before. I don't know how to help her. I can't believe she would leave me and my dad...

You need to call emergency services most likely. It's the only way she'll get help probably . It sounds she's not herself.
ReplyThis is a difficult situation, but please speak to your dad and together find a way of supporting her or seeking professional help for her if necessary. Never ignore these cries for help.
ReplyMaybe she is miserable and is trying to make those around her the same way. Don't let her spoil Christmas for you and tell her to get help.
ReplyMaybe she has not thought about it for a long time, but it has been building up in her a bit because things have been really weird since Covid hit. The same happened with my mom and she got depressed because she’s home all the time. I’d talk to her and your dad about this and try to figure out something together. And maybe try to make things special for her like randomly buy some cheerful flowers for her or make her something special for breakfast. Little things can help in big ways. But yes, talk to your family about it.
ReplyTalk to your dad and figure out what to do , maybe taking your mom to a psychiatrist would help ♥
