I waited for my cousin to come out of the locker room. He was one of the first ones out, walking out of the door in shorts and empty handed. He came up to us, talked about the strawberry on his knee that he'd gotten from sliding into home plate and how much it hurt. We asked if the coaches were gonna take them out to eat. My cousin shrugged and said there were sandwiches on the bus. My 'little brother' walked out of the locker room with a taco. More like half a taco. I tried not to look past him at the people following him.
"Where'd you get tacos?" My cousin asked. Little Brother pointed to the locker room. My cousin booked it to the locker room. Little Brother stuffed the rest of the taco in his mouth, dusted himself off, and came to give me a hug. As I met him halfway, I saw HIM eating a taco, watching us. I tried to focus on what Little Brother was saying, but I could only think about HIM watching us.
Little Brother told me good bye and joined his family. Then HE started coming towards me. In a panic, I turned and looked for my cousin's mom. She was talking to another mom. I turned around and HE was hugging me.
"How's your arm?" I asked HIM.
"Hello," HE said.
"Hi," I replied, trying not to laugh.
I saw my cousin leaving the locker room. HE couldn't get away fast enough.
"Let's gooo," My cousin begged. "I have to get my homework from the car before y'all leave."
I nodded back at HIM and walked away. So much for getting over that.

SHE was waiting for her cousin to come out of the locker room. I saw HER when we walked by. Her 'little brother' walked out of the locker room infront of me. We were both eating tacos. Maybe if she's not talking to anyone, I can say hi or something. But her friend walked straight to HER as her cousin darted back to the locker room.
Her friend dusted himself off and leaned in for a hug. I watched her family out of the corner of my eye. They were smiling. His family was talking to hers.
"Go do something," my friend suggested. "Claim your girl."
Thank god SHE isn't in school anymore. It's not a secret I like her, but it's something she doesn't know. I hope.
As her friend started off towards the bus with his family, I made a move. SHE turned as if she was going to walk away. I called out her name.
"How's your arm?" SHE asked me.
Maybe she can't feel my heart pounding.
"Hello," I said.
Hello? I'm can't believe it. Hey, how's your arm? Hello. I felt the lump forming in my throat.
"Hi," SHE replied, and I could tell she was trying not to laugh.
I saw her eyes dart behind me, and as I moved away. I turned and saw her cousin. Before anything could happen, I booked it. Past my friend who was grinning like no one's business. Past my grandparents who were talking to their friends. Maybe they didn't see me. Or they don't care because I already talked to them.
"Let's gooo," I heard her cousin beg as I walked away.
The last thing I saw was her and her cousin grabbing something out of the car before my vision got blurry.
