Hey, i'm 12. i'm not stupid but, what is depression. I know it's a feeling and all but..can you have mood swings in depression? like mad at anything and everything around you. I heard that getting mad for no reason is a bipolar sign. But no one in my family has bipolar. So i don't know what is wrong with me but please answer my questions if possible.

Hey friend, don't stress too much please. There are many different symptoms involving depression, bipolar, BPD etc., but you can't diagnose or stereotype based on say one or two symptoms. Depression is sort of like chronic (continuous) feelings of sadness, numbness etc.. Everybody feels mood swings. Bipolar disorder has two main categories, with 1 being depression alternating with periods of mania (high manic state, involving excitement, bursts of anger etc), while 2 is generally where the depressive state is more prevalent than the manic.
But please listen when I say that there is nothing wrong with you. If you are concerned about your mood swings, or would like help in controlling/maintaining them, then don't be afraid of using resources and seeking some help! Sometimes its really hard to function when you have so much inner turmoil (trust me, I understand). But I believe in you. It is okay to feel this things, and to feel these emotions thoroughly. Look at some self-regulating tips online, and see if anything is able to help you come back into a more emotionally-controlled zone!
Best of luck with everything, and you are amazing!
ReplyI just read the reply someone sent you. It's very informative but you said you're 12 and mood swings are very common during puberty, I once punched out a window for no particular reason, I just felt really angry that day (I was 13). I wouldn't worry to much about it.
