My 14 year old daughter is giving me crap about how "basic" her wardrobe is. She said she wants to dress up cute like the other girls at her school. She wants new clothes and is particularly into skirts recently. Both of us have been looking online and went shopping in-person 3 times but every skirt I see is way too short. The ones that aren't too short are too long and she calls them granny skirts so I'm guessing she's not a fan. In your opinion, how long should it be? She's my only girl and I never wore skirts growing up so I don't know if I'm just being picky or if they actually are too short. Are there any specific stores I should look at? I feel like I've looked everywhere. She also wants more shirts but says she's tired of boring T-shirts. I don't know what else there is 😅 This seems harder than it should be...

Trends & fashion are a HUGE thing these days. I recommend watching youtube videos by searching ‘closet try on’ or searching through outfit inspired on pinterest. It can give you both an idea of what’s in style & what your daughter is interested in!
Skirts are definitely popular right now as well. Personally, as long as the skirt reaches mid thigh, it should be good. If you think a skirt is too short, she can always wear a pair of shorts underneath. Stores also sell skirts with built in shorts.
Replylol I’m not a parent but I feel your confusion! Fashions change fast, and young teens have it tough because of all the peer pressure at that age (just like we had). The only thing I can suggest is, if she really likes the short skirts then go with that but maybe with leggings? I see that look a lot and it’s pretty fashionable without being risqé yaknow? Good luck, times are changing 😅
ReplyI would allow her that, but also I would told her that that you want it earn for it buy yourself. Iam not supporting this, coz I do not like it but you're free and I believe smart and responsible girl who knows what is she doing. I want to be your friend and not your obsticle in your life.
Point out your opinions and let her decide. If you ban something you do not want your girl to hate you and not being open to you anymore. But you neither want to make it too easy for her to go the way you do not want her to go.
good luck and let us know how it went :)
Replygraphic tees, skirts and many more are definitely in right now. i reccomend as she wants to fit in let her wear the skirts that she likes, and please don't be one of them parents who dress code her. she's young, let her live!!
ReplyThe parents who give their children a dress code are the ones who love their children and want to protect them. My parents are kind of strict about what I wear and I know there's a good reason for that and I know they love and want to protect me. She's young? All the more reason to not allow her to wear showy clothing.
ReplyHi I'm a 17 yrld girl and I remember buying so much fast fashion at 14. I recommend teaching her about making her own style. I wish my mom taught me more about how to create my own style instead of chasing trends. I know she's still growing so I wouldn't recommend buying expensive things she wont fit in a year but I do recommend teaching her to buy simple items she can mix and match. Thrift stores are great for finding inexpensive quality peices. I also happen to know that shopping at thrift stores and second hand shopping is very in right now and much better for the environment. I've found some very high quality modest skirts there that I love. A modest length is about a hand size above the knee no higher. You might suggest she find clothes shes willing to donate before you take her shopping too. That's what my mom always did and I think it taught me to be less reckless with my shopping.
ReplyI totally understand what you're feeling. I say just above the knee. I don't wear skirts because it's so hard to find ones that aren't too short or too long.
ReplyHonestly, I believe skirts should come an inch or two above the knee but everyone has preference. Preppy looks are in trend, flare pants, crop tops with high waist pants. Try letting your daughter browse in Aliexpress. If you live near China, it'll be faster to get your purchases. If you live in America, it takes 1-2 months usually. The prices are reasonable and there are products with free shipping or low shipping fees. The quality is quite good and genuine. My mom and older sister gets a lot of her clothes from there.
