Why do people get pleasure in pain? Why do some people like hurting themselves?

It's a strange thing really. Maybe it's just human nature that we feel the need to self-destruct? Or maybe it's a way to punish ourselves, assuming that the person is hurting themselves because of self-hatred.
Whatever the reason is, it's never a good idea to hurt yourself deliberately. At the worst times, when you feel like no one cares, remember that our body cares and it's trying its best to keep us all alive, everyday, every second.
ReplyYou need to be more specific, if your talking about sex then there is a fine line between pleasure and pain and sometimes in the moment your brain can read the pain as a heightened pleasure but if you are talking about people that self harm, as in cutting or something than that is totally different. Most people who do it are not getting pleasure from it...some might, but most are doing it either to just "feel" something because they feel empty inside or as a way to distract from a greater emotional pain. Personally, when I used to do it, I hurt my body so my emotions could rest, when I wounded myself, I did not feel overwhelmed by painful emotions at that time and for a while when it was healing, if I started to get upset I could touch it to make it hurt again, sometimes just running my fingers over the scar would be enough but if it wasn't and my emotions ran high again, I would hurt myself again. I never found pleasure in doing it but it would offer a weird sense of peace. It is still a horrible way to cope but this is the usual reasonings, at least the ones I am aware of.
ReplyIf it's love, pain doesn't matter as long as it is from the person you love.
