The Need for Purity

The show is about to begin. The stage is set. They will play without introduction.
The curtain rises. The choir bows. But They are no regular singers, for They are just average people. Where are the musicians? Where is the director?
The show starts. The choir bows and begins to sing. It is catastrophic.
There is no coordination in the group, as each thinks his own tune is better than his neighbor’s. Moreover, many wear a mask.
One prominent figure is tall and wears a mask of perpetual happiness. Underneath, though not very well concealed, is hatred and terror. This is the Bad Politician, whose voice is loud and shrill.
Others wear masks of love and integrity, though below they are greedy and attention seeking. These are the Avaricious Activists, whose voices are raspy.
Perhaps the most gruesome are those who wear masks of kindness and care. They are hideous underneath and have no heart. They are the Deceivers. Their voices are not ugly but without passion or love for life.
The rest of them have similar masks of goodness, but their eyes reveal the truth. Their voices are muffled and sing of their petty troubles.
Suddenly another voice is heard. It rises above the pandemonium of the singers because of its purity and truth. It comes from a rather simple face, with no mask, but it holds the audience fast in their seats.
It is so beautiful yet chilling that the audience is able to ignore the mediocre fools. Few voices are so pure and unfiltered on this stage, but they without fail transcend the absurdity of the average. They are the Musicians.
