Sometimes you let your feelings control you. Sometimes you attempt to control your feelings. But control isn't an emotionally fluid concept. It's specific to things like fear, worry, need, anxiety, excitement, anger, addictive hunger, and a few others. Emotions like joy, boredom, nostalgia, apathy, depression, calmness, contentment and several other forms of emotional experiences flow around and through the concept of control as if it is a ghost to them. Therefore when you bring the concept of control to those slower paced emotional states, it necessarily mixes them with one or more of the more frantic emotional experiences. And so it is that we do not gain much in either situation. Attempted control over or attempted loss of control to whatever feelings are in the mix is generally always a fool's game. There's no possibility of true accomplishment in either direction. It's like trying to tie up a tiger's legs using a bar of soap. It doesn't even make sense to try, but you're sure to get hurt if you do.
