You live in a kingdom and its government protects your kids, but you guys are living in poverty and it usually requires some lucks to enjoy a normal life — there's still hope though, you have a sound business concept and your life will be improved if it is a success. But today you saw a public flyer in a tavern, an invitation from another kingdom, they need a skilled person like you to live there. If you go there, you need to bring your kids too. And your departure from the current kingdom will have you blocked from coming back again. And the journey to the kingdom across is both expensive and dangerous. What's your decision, thriving on your business concept safely or risk everything to move to the unknown kingdom miles away with the potential of better life and prosperity.

advice on drifting with best friend

I'd rather go to the unknow kingdom than waiting for my business to become a success. I wouldn't want to spend my life waiting. I'd rather risk it all to live a better life. I wouldn't care if I even lose my life on my journey there. Because I know I have tried and failed. I know I have tried my best. I know that I didn't sit there waiting things to happen but worked on it. So this is my perspective. I don't if it's good or not. But yeah.
Btw, why did you ask such a question? Is this an interpretation of a real life situation?
ReplyBut you have kids who would follow each and every step you take, is your passion for the unknown kingdom worth their safety?
And thank you for the comment, Yes this is a real-life interpretation.
ReplyHonestly, I don't have kids. So I can't put myself into a place where I should think of the kids. But if it's with the kids, I think it'll be good to prioritize their safety. But then again they'd have to grow up in the same old poverty filled life if you continue to live in this kingdom. So the choice is yours now.
ReplyWhen I was younger, I moved across country to another state with a best friend. We had no promise of a job. We roughed it. Being so young, we had jobs that were entry level and came with low salaries. As you can imagine, we struggled financially for a couple of years. When I look back, though, I have so many good stories to share about those days and I can easily look back on all of it and laugh now.
I'm also older and have tried starting my own business, twice. The first business was technical and was growing month by month. I could see how technology was changing, though, and changed my business model. The idea was to charge a monthly subscription for tech advice. And then came YouTube where people could just get the information for free - no matter that most of the information (at least at that time) had poor audio, you couldn't often see what they were demonstrating because they didn't have the correct camera angles and, often provided information that I new was incorrect. Either way, I was no match so bowed out gracefully and shut my business down. Many years later, I started a second business but this one failed miserably. I had a business partner and we went about this thing all wrong. In the end, I wound up loosing over 10k of my own money trying to breath life into this beast of an idea.
Between those experiences, I certainly prefer my move to another state as opposed to the times I owned businesses. In those earlier days, though, I didn't have children and I'm sure it would have been much more difficult to pack up and move on a whim knowing I had kids to take care of. Sounds like you have a job lined up though so this may not be an issue for your. Furthermore, it could be that, even if you needed to or wanted to, you could probably just start your business in the new kingdom.
Yes, these are difficult decisions to make, especially when you have children to take care of and there are probably many, many more variables at play here than the rest of us are aware of. But, based on what you've shared and what I've experienced, I'd choose the new kingdom over starting a business.
Whatever you decide, know that we are wishing you and your family the best!
Good Luck!!
ReplyThat is a tough one. The unknown is quite scary. Especially with a drastic transition like that involving your kids. In my opinion, i would only care about the safety of my family. If i knew safety is guaranteed, i would 100% do it. homefacts dot com is a great resource.
If you see your business thrive in 5 years, would that be equivalent to your potential of better life/prosperity if you moved now?
