Hello, I was in this exact position. I failed my exams and had to keep re sitting them all because I was depressed and I physically couldn’t get myself to do anything or be productive but I knew my potential. You have to think of it this way, there’s many things you can’t control that affect your mental health negatively perhaps it could be bad skin or the way people treat you or how attractive people find you or the family you have etc all these are things you CANNOT control and things that can bring a person down. Things like academic excellence however you CAN control. Wouldn’t you rather be excelling in at least one aspect of your life ? The answer is most likely yes and that aspect should be one you actually have control over. Therefore, put in all ur energy into controlling your academic performance because you actually have the ability to do so. It’s difficult especially when you mentally and physically can’t bring yourself to do anything but you have to try just because as you said, your exams are not gonna wait for you. Hope this helps. Goodluck !
ReplyHere's the thing: if you don't take care of yourself, then your problems will interfere with the rest of your life. For years I failed my classes over and over again because my mental health was at an all time low. By time the summer before I start high school came, I realized how important it'll be to figure things out. I worked hard on helping myself, organizing myself, getting the assistance I needed. You need to tackle both of them, school and health. There are many sources online about things you can do to help depression and adhd from severely disrupting your schoolwork. If you're on medicine for either one, make sure you're taking it as prescribed every day and if they don't seem to be working schedule a meeting with your pediatrician about trying a new medicine. Setting aside a time specifically for schoolwork can help your brain get into a routine and be prepared to settle down and focus. Frequent enough breaks as your work can help keep your brain stimulated, which is important for adhd. Some people find being in a work setting helps them focus, such as staying after school to work or having an office to work in, or even going to the library or something similar. Some people benefit from working with someone else working in the same room, this is referred to as "parallel play". For depression, self-care is essential. Positive affirmations, accepting that we will struggle and sometimes fail and we're not bad for it, decorating or re-decorating your work area (yes, seriously- making it "yours" can help ward off negative feelings while you are in there. This also works in your room, since often we end up sulking and withdrawing into our rooms and it can get gloomy.), ect. I hope you'll be alright. Keep your head up, and take care of yourself as well as your academics.
