I'm going to turn 16 this April, I'm in 10 grade. I'm an average student and my greatest weak point is maths. I take tons of time to complete problems. other students in the class can do much better than me. my brother is very talented in maths and athletics. I'm sure my parents are proud of him. I mean he is great with my family. cousins, friends, and strangers. Whereas I'm an introvert who can do nothing. I can't figure out what I like and what I want. I dunno which stream to take for 11 grade. I'm very much interested in social and I don't want to take maths. People who have better experiences than me say that if maths is avoided, I might not even get a job and that's my worse nightmare. I wanna take humanities for my 11th stream but many say that I won't get a job if I take that stream. why the heck am I so useless? why am I not talented? why can't I become anything? what if my worse nightmare comes true? what if I'm a disappointment to my parents? would my parents be ashamed to introduce me ? why am I born ? I don't wanna live anymore. just like always everyone should forget me when I die and move on with my life. I hate to be a disappointment and I rather not live. do all teenagers think like me?

Hi there. It sucks when people start telling what’s right & wrong based on (what they think) jobs are like. You’re not alone, a lot of teenagers are pushed into careers they don’t like just because of “jobs”.
idk if my story will help, but I also didn’t know what I wanted at your age (I’m late 20s now). Ironically I scored well in maths so that’s what everyone pushed me to do, and I ended up going to an Engineering school. I HATED IT. I wasted 6 years of my life and was miserable. I finally switched careers completely to music & film, and that’s what I really enjoy.
The point is: it’s your life. Nobody can pick for you because you might end up miserable. It’s ok to take a gap year or 2 to figure out what you want. Don’t waste 6 years like me!
Replydon't listen to what others think will give you a 'good job'! I wasted 15 years in total studying something I didnt' like and then working in a field I didn't like, just to end up burned out. I'm finally starting anew with something I do like, but I lost so much time.
Moreover, most people have no idea whatsoever what will be a 'good job'.
I liked psychology, but my parents insisted that I won't make a living out of it. Nobody goes to psychologists.
Well, let me tell you, I've been trying to find a psychologist for months and months! They're all booked solid for like 8 months in advance! Everybody I know either goes already or is planning to go see one.
Just do what you like. It's sooo important and such a huge part of your life, if you'll hate it, no money in the world can make up for that.
ReplyThat is the attitude of the typical indian housholds. doctors and engineers are the onlly careers available go with that or be jobless. that is soo last decade. world is changing we should too. you do what u luv the most . if u lyk humanities go 4 tht. there are tons of career options 4 students who take humanities. please dont compromise ur dreams and likings because of wht other thing cz in the end it will be you living that life nd u dont wanna live the rest of it regretting tht one desision you took just to make ur self good Infront of others
