As a kid I was told by school teachers and by my parents that I needed a psychologist. But I never went to one because that would mean that there is something wrong with me

Stigmas
The idea that mental illness is in itself a contribution to creativity is a stigma. I feel quite strongly about this because I think it trivialises true su...

A page from my diary... I don't know who else to talk to
I think I spiraled into it again... I'm afraid my inconsistency is costing me too much peace. I keep telling myself that I just need time to get back up again,...
Nothing is wrong with anyone. Everything is as it is meant to be, now, what are you going to do with it?
ReplyThere is a lot of things wrong with me. If I'd accepted that I'd have started working to fix them sooner
ReplyMental healthcare was neglected for years. It is slowly becoming more accepted. It is a tool you can use to learn about yourself. It can provide a lot of useful tools for you. Going to a psychiatrist doesn't mean there is anything wrong with you. It means you care about your mental health enough to get a check up :) I have an appointment with mine tomorrow. Give it a try.
ReplyAs a kid I didn't took that chance. Now as an adult I can't afford one. I'm trying to work on my issues by myself.
ReplyThis is true. Meds. and a good therapist. I literally grow up several yrs. each time I see mine. I have a lot of growing up that no one taught me, so that’s a good thing.
ReplyWhy were all the commets flagged? There were nothing wrong with them
ReplySelf diagnosis and treatment are possible. But very very difficult sometimes. Doctors lie and say otherwise, but they just hate people trying to lessen their paychecks. I've also heard from hundreds of people that they therapist or so called professionals that they were seeing, either didn't help or actually made things worse often via over medicating the symptoms and ignoring the deeper issues.
One good thing is to have some people to talk to, vent to, and as much as is possible in any given case, to keep in the loop. Get two close friends you can trust and share your concerns with them. Three heads will be better than one and having two different perspectives from outside can be enlightening even if the perspectives are not very valuable in and of themselves.
Another helpful thing is to educate yourself. Public Libraries, Audible, College papers on conditions like what you might be dealing with, Actually effective (not just pleasant and entertaining) therapy and psychology channels on YouTube, all that and more will be your toolbox and your workbench if you intend to fix yourself by yourself.
I've been trying to heal my own trauma for, well most of my life now. And for me, I couldn't have gotten anywhere without being 100% dedicated to not quitting until I am healed. I do this because the medical industry where I live won't provide actually decent mental healthcare that anyone but rich people can afford. And I do this because if I had quit in the beginning of this journey the alternative was suicide.
I wish you luck.
ReplyYou made good points. Mental health is a business and as such it has its drawbacks. There's a lot of resources on the internet like you said about mental health.
However I'm mostly focused on self improvement sites. I'm not sure mental illness can be cured but I'm sure or I hope that I can improve to have a reasonable normal life and satisfy my needs regardless.
