I sent a stranger a single photo of myself in cosplay two years ago when I met them on a subreddit for cosplay and ended up dming them on Instagram. I later regretted it, freaked out, unsent the picture, blocked them, privated my account, deleted my reddit, and changed my Instagram name. I am not supposed to have any social media, so I did not tell my parents.
Despite nothing bad ever happening, I still occasionally (once, twice a year) get episodes of extreme anxiety regarding the possibility of the person still having that photo of me. It makes me panicked and nauseous. I ended up deleting the Instagram too (though that was also partially because I never used it).
I know this is irrational, but I need reassurance. Can someone please tell me/explain to me why I'm not in danger? I am having another random freak out and it's hard to get out of this circle of thought.

You don't need to worry at all. You don't know them, they don't know you. And it's a really long time, I don't think anyone would keep a photo of stranger who's cosplaying, for such long time. Even in worst case scenario if they have it, there's still nothing you need to worry on it. There are thousands of such photos on internet and seldom someone recognises someone there, afterall it's cosplaying. So don't worry about it. The stranger has probably deleted your pic if they have it still or have forgotten about it in this long run. Take care ^_^
ReplyI've sent a couple dic-pics in my time that I regret lol Literally a couple, two or fewer. That shit still rattles me lol don't sweat it, shit happens & the internet is a BIG place. Even if it surfaces somehow, OWN IT as something stupid you did. We're all people that make mistakes. :P
ReplyThey probably shrugged it off. If they are interested in cosplay picture- they probably have bunch from various cosplayers- so yours might not be special to them. I think you are overthinking about it. Specially 2 years- thats history.
