So I had a meeting today and normally my microphone and camera is turned off on my phone while attending meetings.
But today I was doing daily cleaning of my apartment and moving with phone from one room to another. At one moment I noticed there's no diagnol line on my camera icon. The icon with name initials was showing my initails only. But it gave me a heart attack because I was during a dress change.
Anyways I rushed to turned the camera off and for my satisfaction I tried to turned it on but it asked to grant permission to use my phone camera which I declined. During all this it showed a camera switch symbol on my icon with my initials.
I just switched to a new phone and last time when I attended the meetings it showed a turned off camera.
I asked my supervisor twice if my camera was on during the meetings, and he replied negative. There's no recording of the session and with rest of participants I've no contact.
Usually all the participants keep their camera and mic off until needed so I'm not aware that if teams shows vedio in the bottom where all the participant initial/pictures icon appear.
So help me understand it. Please

I have used Microsoft Teams a few times. I think it's the host who decides whether videos can be switched on or not. If it's the same issue on your new phone and you have checked the settings which allow camera usage or call features, etc. on the app then it's likely that the host has turned off the feature for participants to switch on their videos. To be sure, you could ask the host if they allow it on their meetings? They probably aren't aware of it if they responded that way; could be a default setting at their end. Or watch a video on youtube, they got every discrepancy explained somewhere. If you have done it right, then it's the host's issue.
