I am a little scared of what implies there being another person in your mind that is not you, and not being aware of what happens when they are there, but at the same time, I don't want to hurt them or make them feel scared. I'm afraid I am incapable of getting either of us professional help. I can't get a job at the moment and I don't have independence despite being an adult, but, I can make them company. I hope they don't feel as lonely as I have felt.

Insight Into Mental Illness
Aftermath Today is Sunday September 4th 2022 and it is 6:23 p.m. The weather seems to be warm and sunny day. As if the Earth is trying to be kind to all of...
Not only is there not someone else in your head, you are not in your head. All thoughts come and go, including these you just shared. You are not these thoughts. Their arrival does not make them automatically meaningful. You are the one (the awareness) that has thoughts. You are the one who can and should decide which thoughts are worthy of further consideration.
All thoughts need the energy you provide to persist and return often. This is so for good, bad, wanted, unwanted, helpful, and harmful thoughts. I'm sure you have had thoughts that dissolve rather quickly with hardly any notice. It's like they were presented in a language you did not understand. They got absolutely nothing from you.
The thoughts that get your attention and then an added opinion or dramatic story with an emotional reaction get super charged with energy. Thoughts can't be prevented or pushed away once they show up. Trying to do this energizes them. Unwanted thoughts will show up and when they do, let them stay until another replaces them. Don't resist or react in any way. Don't make any mental comments, just let them be. They will dissolve soon enough. When a helpful thought arrives, pay attention, add a mental opinion or story, use your imagination, get excited, and even allow it to direct your actions.
Not only are you not your thoughts, you are not your mind. You have this very useful and powerful thinking instrument that needs to be better understood and managed. Until you treat this as a priority that you actually work at, you will continue to suffer.
