"May you live in interesting times". These certainly are interesting times.
In the modern world there exists infinite sources competing for each individual"s time and attention. This phenomenon coupled with our desire to attempt to engage many of those competing sources has resulted in the gradual loss of the ability to "live" in the present, otherwise known as "presence". Today"s children are not only faced with an unprecedented amount of information overload, but they have less of an ability to cope with this overload. As adults many of us have developed skill sets that offer us the ability to navigate this complex and highly connected world. Most children do not have such a skill set and unfortunately are not being taught this skill set. As we approach what may prove to be the most important political election in the history of the world we should all think very carefully not about who we are planning to vote for but why we are planning to vote for our chosen candidate. Socrates once said "I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think". Now more than ever is the time to heed those words and for all of us to think. Think critically, think simply. Place a sign in your yard and a bumper sticker on your car for who you plan to vote for. If you are not willing to do that then simply ask yourself "why".
I personally choose to not engage in social media for a variety of reasons and thus am unable to post this on most web sites. If anyone feels this should be shared I would ask that you post it and share it.
