You know that old saying, "sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me?" It's all a lie. Sometimes words hurt deeper. You don't get the satisfaction of seeing evidence of your pain in a bruise or a cut, or the knowledge that you can recover as your body shows you how to heal.
