Behind Aaron Marino’s confident exterior is a man riddled with insecurities. In hopes of helping other people feel less insecure, Aaron shares some tips that helped him get over his insecurities.
Although he directs his advice at males, these strategies can help both men and women alike.
Tip 1: Social media is not reality! People tend to show snapshots into their lives of what they want you to see rather than their behind the scenes.
Tip 2: Never compare yourself to anyone other than you! As long as you’re competing against yourself every day to be the version of you, that’s what really matters.
Tip 3: Surround yourself with positive people that make you feel good about yourself! Positivity and negativity are both contagious, so ask yourself which one you want to surround yourself with. If the people in your life aren’t lifting you up and bringing out the best in you, then you might need to reevaluate who you’re associating yourself with.
Tip 4: If you have the ability to make lifestyle changes to help lessen your insecurities, go for it! This may be something as simple as going to the gym or eating healthier. For those of you who are insecure about things you can’t change, the sooner you can embrace your insecurities and learn to love them the better. Whether you have a crooked smile, scars, moles, acne, big ears, or anything else, the people who matter most in life will love you just the way you are.
Tip 5: Help people! Volunteering and helping people in need is a great way to spend your time and it’s likely you’ll feel better in the process.
The next time you’re feeling insecure about something, try to follow any negative self-talk with something you do like about yourself. If you look in the mirror and catch yourself thinking how much you don’t like your nose, follow this thinking with “but I do like my _______”.
Everyone struggles with certain things they may not like about themselves, and that’s okay. Try following some of these tips and hopefully you’ll start to feel less insecure soon!
