With more technology at your fingertips than ever before, sometimes you need to give your brain a break and disconnect. Ingrid Nilsen helps alleviate stress in her life by turning her phone on airplane mode for an hour once a day. Not having to worry about social media, texts, and emails can help you relax your busy mind.
Ingrid finds reading and writing as very therapeutic tools that also help her de-stress. Getting the stressful thoughts out of your mind and onto paper can help. If you prefer to type instead of write by hand, Novni is a great tool for that.
Meditating is another coping mechanism Ingrid suggests to try when stressed out. Meditation helps you focus on the present moment and detach from anxious thoughts about the past or future. If you’re stressing about a new job, big test in school, or anything else, meditation can help. If you’re new to meditation there are tons of resources available to help you learn.
If you find yourself cooped up inside too much, get outside! Walking around and experiencing a change of scenery can help calm your mind. Try driving or biking around aimlessly without a destination. It can help you recharge your batteries and take a break from your stressors too.
The busier you are, the harder it can be to find time to relax. It is essential for your wellbeing to take “me time” out of your day though. Give some of Ingrid’s suggestions a try and experiment to see what works best for you.
