Why Telling “Your Story” Is Not In Your Best Interests

I don’t know what tge Zeitgeist is in Europe is I can only speak on behalf of the U.S.
But basically the second you have a mental illness diagnosis you can pretty much kiss your right to any right to autonomy and say so over your personal destiny goodbye.
And no I don’t mean at the hands of some Orwellian/Draconian system and based on the events of last weekend (ie Dayton and El Paso) the entire mental health system is asleep at the fucking switch.
I mean the inept, toxic narcisstic ghouls who masquerade as family, friends, coworkers etc. who probably had a hand in driving you up the goddamned wall in the first place.
It’s like “Okay, you’re stable, on meds, now you pretty much have to defer to us on all matters even if it jeopardizes your existential well being because after all you owe us “everything” and yadda yadda.
But heaven forbid you should ever have an opinion-let alone feel uncomfortable, or even threatened-sometimes with valid, legitimate, principled reason in some cases-about anything anyone does or says.
Sure no one can physically stop you from achieving what you want but calling bullshit and basically having to validate yourself romantically, at work and or school, it’s just fucking exhausting.
And the slimy dirty trick most people love to play is if they do start fucking around they can always invoke “Oh well you’re just having one of your episodes you should talk it over with your therapist or have the shrink adjust your meds.”
So basically any and everyone who does not have your best interest at heart at the end of the day has an open ended blanket plausible deniability.
So unless you’re Kanye West or Jim Carrey or Brooke Shields then it really isn’t worth it to put yourself on the line like that.
This is why detectives say most missing persons don’t wanna be found.
Sometimes walking away from your life and starting over under a new identity really is the only way to go...
