Markell's Unwavering Spirit Despite Adversity

Over the course of your lifetime, the odds are that you will know somebody battling cancer. This is the story of one boy named Markell Gregoire who never wavered despite all of his adversity with cancer. Markell touched the lives of every person he encountered and his unstoppable spirit will forever be an inspiration to anybody going through tough times.

Markell was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma. He received care at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis and eventually had to amputate his leg in order to give himself the best chance to stop the cancer from spreading.

7 months later, the cancer had came back and spread to his neck. He did radiation, but 3 weeks later it had spread again to his lungs. Half a year passed by and he had gotten rid of the spots in his lungs, but it had spread once again to his lower spine.

Through it all, Markell remained optimistic. He has instilled hope into other children battling cancer to take things one day at a time and never give up.

5 years since his initial diagnosis and Markell proclaimed “Everything I’ve been through, it made me stronger today”. No matter what hardship you’ve been through or are still going through today, have faith knowing that you will be stronger because of it.

Although you can’t predict what will happen tomorrow, or the day after that, one thing is for certain. As long as you remain hopeful and make the best out of every day, Markell’s legacy will live on forever.
