Allie LeFevere is a bold and healthy living coach. In this video she shares her personal experiences with her eating disorder and the steps she took to overcoming it.
Allie admits to growing up insecure which led to a 6 year disordered eating battle with bulimia. In 2007 her step father and grandfather died tragically and Allie hit rock bottom.
The deaths of Allie’s grandfather and stepfather resulted in the peak of her disorder and made her realize she had to make changes in her life to survive. These 5 steps helped Allie overcome her biggest challenges in life and can be applicable to whatever you’re going through as well.
Embrace Vulnerability: The first thing Allie did was admit her weaknesses in order to find strength. She realized she couldn’t do it on her own so she sought out help and got a therapist.
Reconnect: Find a practice of some sort where you can reconnect with yourself. It could be painting, music, running, drawing, gardening, or whatever else makes you feel connected with yourself.
Clean Up: You must change your behaviors if you want to reach your new goals. In Allie’s case eating clean was a key factor in her recovery. Allie noticed she became more energetic, less tired, and was overall happier during her “clean” eating habits.
Step Outside of You: To overcome her problems she had to change her perspective. Allie traveled to South Africa on a service trip for 3 weeks and gave back to others. By helping other people overcome their challenges she felt a healing and love while overcoming hers. Allie’s trip gave her greater empathy for others and also showed her what was truly important in her life. While taking a step outside herself, Allie discovered her mission in life was serving others.
Tell Better Stories: We all tell ourselves our own stories, big and small, about who we are and why we’re not good enough. Rewrite your story! The person you are on the outside will become a reflection of the person you are on the inside.
Apply these steps to whatever you’re going through and you should start to notice positive improvements in your life. It won’t happen overnight, by any day is a great day to tackle your challenges head on.
