Ironic isn’t it,
That I get broken up with,
With a poem,
When I was the one writing them.
Funny to you isn’t it,
That I fell head over heels,
And now lie broken on the ground,
With no one to left to pick the shards up.
What do promises mean to you,
Did you ever think about what you said,
Or was it all lies and deceit,
From the first to the last word?
“If you want love you’ve got to go through the pain”,
Accurate since love is built on pain,
On suffering for others,
For their happiness instead of yours.
Lying in your embrace,
So secure and warm did I feel,
I should have known though,
That you were holding a knife to my back,
Or that the clock above my head was ticking down.
Rivers of tears stream down my face,
Unstoppable amounts of salty streams,
Flowing and flowing,
Until sleep overpowers me.
Here and now,
Staring into the vast nothingness,
Just darkness do I see,
And numb- feeling nothing at all.
Perhaps that was a lie too,
For somehow I feel nothing,
But also so much emotion,
That it seems to push me under with its icy claws.
Love makes you vulnerable,
It makes you weak,
It makes you open to getting hurt,
It exposes your most inner heart.
I should have known,
That this is how it was going to end,
Risks aren’t meant to be made,
At least not for me.
No more chances,
No more risks,
No more happiness,
No more love.
Not for me,
Never for me,
But when I go,
That’ll be the only fleeting happiness I will have.
