I am currently 14 and I'm your ordinary teenager. I enjoy music, the arts, and basically anything unrealistic, but something that seems to surprise every adult that I meet is that I enjoy talking politics. A few days ago, we were at a party. All of the kids were in early grade school and personally, I find little kids annoying, but that just might be me being a bitter teenager. I heard some adults talking politics. I knew them all and they all knew me, so I figured that I'd put my own two cents in.
Once I did though, I was told that politics weren't meant for kids and to go back to the kids' area. I was offended. They said that I was uneducated, therefore I shouldn't be putting in my opinion. I believe that if I am uninformed then they should tell me the facts. Inform me. Enlighten me, not just disregard me.
As I went to the kids' area, I got to thinking. Isn't politics all about us kids? Isn't it deciding our future?
When you vote, you're not voting for the present, you're voting for a future; for the next generations that aren't yet adults. Then I think about the current people in charge that we voted for and how we fucked over our children, our grandchildren, our great-grandchildren, and so on.
So, why can't I talk about politics? Well, it's simple, I am under 18, so my opinion must be invalid, right? Well, when you get down to it, it's not. Every opinion is valid because it's just that, an opinion.
Don't disregard us, kids, when we put in our opinion on anything, because our opinions become the future.

Addiction is not about addicts
Addiction really is horrible isn’t it? It has become quite a hot topic recently with many debates on what addiction is, if it is a disease, what can be done,...
Well, you don’t really know what it’s like to have a job or have to support a family. You don’t know what it’s like to live on your own. Nobody can tell you these things, you have to experience it. It’s good that you are interested in politics, but your opinion isn’t really valid to an adult, because you haven’t lived as an adult.
ReplyHaving the experience of an adult isn't very relevant to the discussion of politics, depending on the exact topic. The author's opinion should be just as valid.
ReplyI love the last sentence of your post, "Don't disregard us, kids, when we put in our opinion on anything, because our opinions become the future." I think that this is a very relevant statement and more people should think about it. I do agree with the other person in the comments and how you have to have experiences, but I think adults should still appreciate your insights because they are important. Most teens do not even know anything about politics so it is very special to find someone who is. Keep up the good work and spread democracy!
ReplyDoesn't democracy mean you are a democrat???
If that is correct, THEN I AM NOT IN FOR ANY FUKING BICH DEMOCRACY!!!
ReplyI would say tell me your opinion and I'll tell you if it's valid ;-)
