I took care of a patient the other day who was married to a man from Yugoslavia. She told me that she learned his language and they spoke it at home to each other and their children. I don't know if it was Macedonian or Serbo-croatian. She then told me she had a dog. I asked her was the dog's name was and she said "Dusa" (not sure of spelling and I know I'm missing punctuation). I asked her what that meant and she said "my soul." She told me that her husband used to call her that.
And I was just sitting here in my car, in the driveway, going into an empty house thinking how lovely that would be to have someone love you and hold your worth that high to call you "my soul." She said he was the best man and looked like she was still deeply in love even in her 80s with him having died years ago.
Getting hit with all the feels now.
