Suffocating noise

I’m noise sensitive but my family has never really taken that into consideration. My dad used to yell at me a lot and I still have a lot of emotional trauma from that to be honest. It’s the holidays and I’m being forced to interact w family when I’d rather stay home honestly. I made a promise to explore old interests again and I feel trapped. My aunts also have a habit of pinching my sides or poking at me and I’m in no state to deal w physical contact right now. They don’t take the hint when I smack at their hands and remove myself from the situation. One of my aunts is as equally loud as my father and turned up unnacounced. I’m just a little irritated

As a noise sensitive person too, I can totally relate to this. My dad still yells at me (am a bit of a young person here), which destroys me from the inside out, and my siblings don't make this any better. I hate loud music which my parents play a lot too (google home speaker... they can play whatever they want when they want).
I also get bothered with the physical contact thing also-- stop poking me, relatives!
I get irritated a lot too.
ReplyIf you're uncomfortable, you don't need to explain it to others or feel guilty for removing yourself. I know relatives can be pushy, but you need to be firm with your boundaries. If their behavior annoys you, don't ask, demand that they stop, and if they continue, leave (if you can). If not, distance yourself from them. You deserve to take whatever steps necessary to keep yourself at ease.
ReplyWear earplugs in their company.
