He is my high school guidance counselor. After I graduated, we began to message each other a couple time a week. The topics are varied; sometimes about school, sometimes about sports. And we are still messaging each other now. In the chat, he used to use the funny and informal tone to talk with me. However I notice that he has always tried to avoid whenever I have come back to visit school. He acts very unnatural and uncomfortable when seeing me and usually acts like he is very busy. But then we still message each other and he doesn’t seem like how he was at school. Sometimes, I really want to end the conversation with him but everytime I have done that, he tended to ask me more questions to keep the conversation going.
So if you were me, what will you do? I don’t want to act rude and impolite because I don’t want to feel embarrassed or something like that in the future when I visit school.

Well, maybe the relationship isn’t age-appropriate and he’s afraid someone will notice.
ReplyAssuming we are just counselor-student relationship. What can I do to stop this conversation with him?
ReplyTo stop it? Just stop texting. Don’t even feel bad about it. He doesn’t feel bad about avoiding you at school....something is unnatural with the relationship and you both seem to know it. Maybe he doesn’t know how to end it either. So, just stop.
ReplyEven though a relationship would be legit now.. the fact your WERE a student has the appearance of being inappropriate. It would be unprofessional, etc.. so he's avoiding workplace problems by separating personal interactions (now) with prior interaction (when you were in school).
I'm a fire fighter so we have the same problem.. you save someone's life you have to be VERY careful not to use that 'power' to your personal advantage even though the 'saving' happened long ago. For the most part that person is 'off limits' for a long time, I imagine with schools it's even more so. If you like this person, drop them before you accidentally cause then a whole pile of trouble, even if they can't drop you from their lives. Just tell them why and give it a good year before returning if you are interested.
