They took our land. A pure Native American like me. My heart burns within me. They're all strangers, yet they look at me like I'm the stranger. You don't know how it feels like. The pain, the anger. I sing our song in my heart. I hold our culture no matter what. Long live Native Americans!

Yay!
ReplyI am so so sorry. My heart hurts when I think of how this country was built. I am so glad you’re here to carry your song forward.
ReplyI totally agree that the most recent land theft in the U.S. was settlers taking it from Native Americans already here. But, this may help with your stress about that theft - realize that the Native American tribes that were not nomadic (that is, they occupied, farmed and hunted on a defined piece of land) also had to take that land from whomever had it before them. Every country or boundary of someone's territory in history has been taken by force. While the settlers were the most recent to take land that is now the United States, it was taken by those who had it for the settlers to take by whoever was occupying it. Native American tribes both stole and burned/salted and destroyed land of their enemies for centuries long before settlers arrived.
