So I’m really struggling. I’ve been trying to get better with my anxiety and depression but nothings working too well. I’ve tried counseling, vitamins, numerous amounts of coping skills, etc, etc but I still can’t seem to improve. I think I want to talk to my doctor about medication but it scares me. I’m afraid I’ll be different on it like not myself. If anyone who has taken medication has any advice about it I’d really appreciate it.

Have you examined your nutrition and sleep? These are the two most important and modifiable features of your life that can improve your mental health. Look it up online and you will see what I mean.
ReplyOne other overlooked cause for these types of symptoms, thyroid. Make sure before you undertake medications (which all have side effects!) get your thyroid hormones checked, vitamin levels, etc. Even a B12 deficiency can cause what appears to be mental health symptoms.
ReplyAbout medication if you're gonna take it then make sure you have a psychiatrist or someone professional tracking and checking up on you because not all medications work on everyone for example you might get prescribed a particular medication and you tell your professional your symptoms and they reassure you that its fine and you should continue taking it or both of you can later on agree that this medicine is not helping you or is bad for you so you would get prescribed another one, till you find what works for you.
ReplyBefore taking any medication, consider seeing a neurologist and then a psychiatrist. One doctor might recommend you to another but make sure it's not health related issues like hormones etc...
ReplyTaking meds initially can be terrifying, and I never wanted to because if felt like it meant i was weak. But i talked to my family doctor, and then a psychiatrist about everything i was feeling, and they reccommended starting me on a low dose of meds, and if they helped they would up the dose. The make the good days feel the same, and my med make the bad days seems manageable and they didnt' scare the crap out of me anymore. I still had bad days but they were left often and i never felt hopeless, i always felt like i could overcome the "spiral" i was feeling.
