A conservative point of view:
Asking a liberal-minded person about anything political gets ugly unless you agree with them or keep silent. Conservatives long ago learned to not ask questions or discuss the things that matter to them because of a great lack of civility from the other side. Without communication, nothing gets resolved. The chasm of division grows. Division weakens a nation.
Perhaps that's how Donald Trump got elected. Conservatives got tired of fighting to talk, so they quietly voted. Will it happen again? I daresay that most people (liberal and conservative alike) do not like it when folks are attacked because they wear a hat that reads "Make America Great Again." When their voices are belligerently drowned out, voters quit talking, but they don't quit voting. 2020 will be interesting. Ugly, but interesting.
Voters are also growing weary of the constant barrage of "Impeach Trump" chatter because at this point it looks more like persecution of a man who has improved the economy.
Oh, wait! What's that you say? He's riding the coattails of Obama? The economy started turning around under the previous administration? If Obama gets credit for the economy, he also gets the credit for the heightened racism that rose swiftly and violently in his second term. But it's a lot easier to toss out terms like "white privilege" than to go into the cities that desperately need good leadership, education, fathers, and hope. Oh, how they need hope!
They need Jesus.
We all need Jesus.
You need Him, too.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to recognize real racism in America. It exists, but since it has become a favorite name to call people with differing opinions, no one pays any attention to it. It is merely a byword met with eye rolls then quickly dismissed as whining from unhappy liberals who don't like what was just said.
Show me one person who was barred from a restaurant, had their drink poured over their heads, or were pushed and/or hit because they wore a "I'm With Her" tee shirt.
If civil conversations could be held, we'd find that we aren't so very different. We'd begin to see the truth over the lies, the solutions instead of the problems. The biggest, most impenetrable walls exists in the minds and hearts of people, not on the border.
For every liberal who wonders why someone voted for Donald Trump, you can find two conservatives who will never understand why people like Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Chuck Schumer, and Elizabeth Warren get reelected, or how in the world AOC was elected the first time!
2020?
Lord, help us all.

Obama was at least respectable and he did a lot more than he was credited for.
ReplyBut of course, that is an opinion. Some people are of the opinion that Donald Trump has done far more than he is credited for, and that there was nothing respectable about Obama.
ReplyIt is ok to have different opinions. Trump helps the rich get richer and is horrible to women.
ReplySeems like mankind is made of extremes.
Ranging from loving or hating something.
ReplyThat is probably more true than any of us care to admit.
ReplyI could say the same about conservatives. Liberals aren't all bad. The split parties are just a "division" like church denominations are. If people agreed to put labels aside and act like human beings maybe more would be accomplished.
ReplyWe definitely need some civil communication!
