I know my my birth "mom" and her side of the family on Facebook. We have been in small communication for 9 years-ish.
My birth aunt asked me to attend the family reunion this summer, they all live in another country that doesn't speak much English! Now I'm being told my Aunt and Mom won't be there. It's a dangerous city, and I do not want to travel alone.
I feel lost if I should even go. What am I doing - someone??

It’s okay if you don’t want to you know. Even though it’s your birth family it’s still people you don’t really know that well. Just imagine for a second that it wasn’t your birth family. If they were complete strangers that you started talking to on Facebook for nine year ish, would you go to another country where you don’t know the language to meet them?
But if you do want to go try and see if anyone from your current family can accompany you. It’ll be nice to have a familiar face around and someone to help you. If it’s someone who knows the local language then even better.
All the best!
