It is and isn't what you think.
I had a patient who was in isolation. She was closed off from leaving her room for 20 days. She was miserable. I felt so bad for her that I had to hug her when I was leaving today. I just couldn't stand how it must feel for her to be unable to walk the hall or visit people without the uncomfortable gowns and gloves. When I hugged her she started crying and told me she loved me. And I knew I had done the right thing.
It made me think about my own life and how I feel isolated from others in a different sort of way. I am surrounded by people but often lack connection. And I don't know...sometimes I think that's worse.
Anyway, I was glad to have made a positive impact on this woman's life today. I suppose that's a win.

ReplyThat kind of isolation where you're surrounded by your family but you felt alone. The place and the people in it makes you so sad or probably I just really cannot fit in. π It's my problem.
