Silence

What do you do when the person you love has fallen out of love with you right in front of your eyes. You ask over and over again if this is what they want, you ask them if they still love you. Their mouth says yes, but their eyes tell a whole different story. You hear the words that are supposed to reassure you, but the actions never follow. So you ask again. Again, they say yes, but this time they won’t even look at you. But hearing those words give you hope, and you ignore the signs that your eyes can see clearly. So you tell yourself your crazy. If they say they love you, why can’t you just believe it? You try harder. You give more of yourself, and because you’re giving more, at first you don’t notice that they’re giving less. You’re overcompensating. Hoping that if you try harder, if you say all the right things, do all the right things, that they have to love you. And then the day comes where you can’t give anymore, because you can’t keep filling someone else’s cup when yours remains empty. So you ask one last time. Is this what you want, do you still love me? And what follows is more heartbreaking than any words that could come out of their mouth because, The words are no longer there to comfort you, the eyes are no where near your direction, and the silence speaks louder than anything you have ever heard before.
