A month ago, I started working at this restaurant that is known for having a toxic environment. I really didn't want to work there, but I really needed the money and my current job does not pay a lot despite the hours I get. So, I started working there anyway. But it has been terrible. I work double shifts every weekend, but make less money then the other hostesses for some reason. The managers are extremely petty and unprofessional. And they are constantly scheduling me on days I simply cannot work. But I get in trouble if I don't show up and call off. I recently quit since it's far away from my school but told my floor manager that I'd finish my last scheduling for her since she's one of the few managers I actually like. But, I'm really thinking about just leaving early instead after the last debacle I went through with them. Plus, I'll have to drive forty minutes with traffic every weekend just to get there. And I found another job to replace it who is only 5 minutes from me. Everyone's is telling me to just not finish and leave since they treat me so badly. But I have never quit anything in my life. So it's very difficult. But being there really stresses me out and causes so much mental exhaustion. I am really in the weeds right now.

ReplyI know it’s hard. But you can. You can move on. You don’t owe it anything. You owe it to yourself to not put yourself through this if you can. Be kind to yourself
ReplyI walked away from a job one time in my life. I had worked there for nearly 10 years and loved it. Well, until the new boss came in. I had worked with three different bosses previously and never had an issue. At any rate, this guy was extremely rude, had a power trip, and didnt know what he was doing. Everyone in the department started quitting but none were getting replaced. In the end, there were only two of us doing all the work. One day, the guy calls us in for a meeting and tells us that we aren't getting the work done fast enough. And that was it, I blew a gasket and walked out. I was done with that place and quickly found a new job.
Later, though, I could have used that old employer but I had burnt that bridge. In the end, things still worked out for me so I dont regret it.
I would never recommend someone do such a thing but if it's that bad, I think you could make the decision that works best for you, not them, and not feel guilty about it at all.
Good Luck!
