Emotional Childhood Wounds
This is a recollection of events I have wanted to share for twenty years but have been unable to. I have spent the better part of the last year organizing these...
Well, I certainly agree with that. Kids shouldn't be having depression. Depression is what happens when the brain can't make as many feel good chemicals anymore. If you're constantly dealing with things that upset you, it makes it hard for the brain to keep up. So it's as much physiological as it is psychological. Of course, once the damage is done, it's hard to recover. That's why it takes years for people to recover. Once you have depression, it's uphill. And sure, even people who had good homes still end up with depression. Outside influences are a huge factor, as well as brain chemistry. Even family history.
My father hit me. And I mean more than just a slap for misbehaving. He didn't always need a reason. That's why it's called abuse. My mother let it happen. She was often in denial. But they act like my issues come from out of nowhere. No. It started with them. If you break a mirror, you might be able to fix it. The cracks will still be there.
ReplyI agree. Some people have to start considering children as new human beings and not a milestone, or an upgrade or something like that. It's a life, and they can't defend themselves.
My mom had me to spite my grandma, and then she just went downhill from there.
I was pretty much a "doll" in her eyes (something she mentioned all throughout my life, but I didn't take it as literally as it really was) and therefore I had to do her every command. Did I ever have a thought of my own, I was punished by isolation, shame and outright hatred, and made me apologise for having an opinion.
So my depression is quite understandable in that regard. Self hatred is also a pain in my ass.
I wonder sometimes how I would've turned out if my mom treated me like a human being sometimes.
