... that my parents feel awfully shameless when they say things like, "Don't get too serious with that boy." Why wouldn't you want me to get serious with anyone at my age? I'm 26. A majority of my friends are either in happy relationships, engaged, or married at this point. Some are even younger than me.
They talk about how they expect me to have kids, yet they don't want me to get serious with my boyfriend.
I just find it so odd that they actually have the audacity to say things like that to me. That they wish for me to be lonely, despite finding love, warmth, comfort, and happiness with him.
I just want them to get along, because my parents will be seeing more of him, and he'll be seeing more of them, unfortunately. But they just make it so hard, because of all of the mean things they say about the people they've never even met. I don't want him to be around the toxic environment that I have to endure every day from my parents.
He has been so understanding, so loving. So warm and so kind. He hears the things my parents say to me, and he sees the way they treat me. But he tries so hard to be good for me, to get on their good side.
.. Why wouldn't my parents want me to get serious with a man like that?
