In my endeavors to accomplish the goals I've set out to, I've found that strategizing plays a role in just about every single aspect of every single situation.
So it's time to strategize.
First, and foremost, what is my main purpose here? My ultimate objective?
I would say to have a good job, a family and a happy home.
Now break each one into it's own subset.
A good job:
- master my craft
- become a welding inspector
- pursue necessary certifications to get promoted
- become employed as a welder
- get into college for welding
- research information and videos to learn some aspects prior to enrollment
A family
- have grandchildren
- hit 20 year anniversary
- hit 10 year anniversary
- have kids
- get married
- hit one year anniversary
- take time to make sure she's the right one
- be open, trusting and loyal
- find a woman who is interested in me
- have a stable social network
- find friends to hang out with
A happy home
- open communication
- independence
- willingness to work out problems together
- a "no quit" attitude
- shared happiness
So that's all well and good. I'm trying to take this down to the smallest steps possible. What steps can I currently take that would get me closer to these goals?
- set up a daily schedule
- get into therapy ✔
- work on socialization skills
- be less needy
- continue personal development ✔
- start paying off my previous college debt ✔
- get into meditation and stick with it
- get an exercise routine going
- eat healthier✔
- stop smoking
- improve my wardrobe
- improve my self care and hygiene
- practice daily gratitude (just 3 things to be grateful for, every day)
- staying motivated ✔
- journal daily ✔
- get a morning ritual going
These are all the things I can think of right now. I'll add more should they become obvious.
Next is knowing my competition, ME.
What are my flaws
- patience
- neediness/clingy behavior
- lack of will power
- fear of the future/responsibility
- fear of loss/failure
- excessive negative self talk
- performance anxiety
- onset strong negative emotions
- fear of being uncomfortable (physical/emotional)
- complacency
- extreme difficulty with constructive criticism
- procrastination
That feels like a pretty complete list.
What are my strengths?
- intelligence
- strategic thinking
- analysis
- determination
- basic math
- improvising
- problem solving
- critical thinking
- willingness to change
- perspectives
- creativity (needs improvement)
So now I have a basic assessment of the overall battlefield, the main objectives and what my enemy's weaknesses and strengths are.
I have researched the enemy for decades now and I know his heart, but he does not know mine.
I will be the general of my life.
