Seeing you upon the shore with that smile on your face,
My heart is warm,
But it soon grows cold
And like a hurricane my thoughts swirl.
My tears flow
As I think of how I am no longer in your heart,
Nor am I in your mind
The way I once was.
I am scared of the waves i’ve created,
Because you left me stranded
On this island all alone.
Now dark skies surround me,
And my lungs soon fill,
Not with water but with cries.
Cries, not for help,
But to feel happiness
The way I once did.
As the waves crash against me,
I am blinded by my tears.
The salty tears of terror.
That you no longer love me
The way you once did.
I pull myself together,
I gather the pieces of my heart
And try to put it back,
But I know it will never be
The way it once was.
The wind whispers sweet nothings in my ear
And like a fool I listen.
My heart starts to slow,
And my head no longer spins.
The terror fades away,
And I am left a stray.
I know now, that I can never forget
The memories that we shared,
The laughs we had,
Or the love we gave.
I know you are gone
And out of reach,
But I will hold onto you,
Because I crave
The way we once were.
