When I don't have much to do I always overthink and get paranoid over little things. I hate my brain and myself for not making me sleep peacefully at night because of the things running through my head. I'm overthinking on what other people think of me aack— I think if I can go to school again, I will totally forgot how to interact with others. Im aware that I don't have social skills but I think if I face a human being again I will forgot how to speak because My social anxiety just got worse. I need advice, how to stop overthinking? How to cope with anxiety? How to stop being paranoid? How to keep my mind off irrelevant things? Thanks in advance if you will answer seriously

Try to distract yourself. Call your friends and familu if you can, with Facetime, Zoom, Skype, text, cell etc. You could also meditate or listen to music to clear your mind, or bake or cook. If you're into makeup, try to put some makeup on whether it looks good or not, that usually helps me calm down. Maybe even play a video game and try to make new friends by chatting with people on the game. I hope this helped a bit <3
ReplyI have social anxiety too. I used to think I'll never be able to interact with people either. But trust me, if you meet some good people, it gets fine with time. Your anxiety and other things make you humane, that means acceptable too.
But during this lockdown, I know thoughts can be a torment. I can suggest you a book I'm reading. "When panic attacks" By Dr. David Burns.
Initially I thought this book is just for panic attacks and anxiety. But it delves deeper. And it has sustained me till now. This book really really helped me.
Apart from this, think of any hobby that makes you feel good. One solution to not overthink is, always have some thing to look upto for the next day. Try new things. Paint. Sing. Dance. Write. Read. Sit on the terrace. Play musical instrument.
Try not watching news for a while. It's very important to take healthy breaks. And one more thing, we always ignore how breathing affects our body. If your body feels healthy, your mind has more chances of being healthy. Seriously, try yoga and meditation.
Watching sunrise is one more thing, that makes my day joyous. Or at least bearable.
Watch this movie, it's kind of a funny story. And there are many good movies. Watch the movies that make you feel warm. Like, love actually or Forrest Gump.
Listen to this song, "call it dreaming" By iron and wine.
If you can then please monitor what you let into your mental space. This means people and their words. Also the music. Don't listen to anything that troubles you.
I hope I didn't overstep. But please take care. It's very important to feel healthy on the inside.
Take care :)
ReplySomething that really helps is reaching out to people who are in need of advice. It gets your thoughts off yourself and in aiding others, you actually start to feel good. Get your mind off yourself and into helping others. There are a ton of distractions you could turn to , but turn to those distractions that make you feel... rather than those that just clutter your mind.
About interacting with others...there will always be people who will like you and those who do not. Your life is not about a popularity contest. It's about getting to know who you are and liking yourself. Accept who you are, be who you are and the confidence will follow. Striving for the sake of others will leave you hollow.
