I know I am mentally "disabled" since I have severe anxiety (more than 1 type and all make daily life hard) and ADHD and now bipolar disorder, but as you can probably tell, I don't like using the word disabled on myself.
I think it's because of the stigma around it and the fact that it's not something that is obvious to anyone else. It doesn't stop me from walking or learning (most of the time) it's just a demon that makes it impossible for me to talk to people and need a pet around me a lot.
I'm applying for a emotional support animal (a small snake named Beetlejuice) but I don't feel worthy of using the learning accessibility part of my school.
I'm so lost and feeling like crap when all I'm trying to do is convince the school that the snake is going to keep me grounded and keep me from having any preventable issues with my mental health.
Any advice/ suggestions/ help? I'm so confused with myself and everything about my situation.

My latest obsession
So I have ADHD... or bipolar disorder (jury is still arguing over the diagnosis) but anyway, I sometimes get overly obsessed with ideas and once there there, I...
Go for the snake. Those little guys are so cute and they make life so manageable. I only know because I had a friend with a snake. They can be so loving. As for everything else, I cant say for sure, I lack any kind of experience in that department.
I hope you're ok and if you need to talk, I'm here. I hope I can help
ReplyThanks. I grew up with my brother owning a lizard and it was just the sweetest little guy ever.
ReplyI bet, I love the nonchalant looks on their faces.
ReplyPlease give this snake a nicer name. If you are thinking of taking this snake to school all I can say if I was a school principle I would never allow it. If I did kids would be bringing all sorts of pets to school and the place would end up like a zoo with animals, reptiles, birds, and insects every where. As for animals pooing and peeing everywhere, can you imagine the mess?
ReplyThat's why it's a snake, not a cat. I specifically chose it because it is hypoallergenic, small, and something that still helps my severe anxiety and depression. This isn't a "Oh, i want to get a pet lol!" kinda thing. This is a "I want to alleviate my anxiety that makes me feel as if I am going to die".
I'm sorry if I come off snappy. I just wanted to clear up some things I thought were missed in your comment.
ReplyYou're not disabled. You're just dealing with the reaction to a bunch of trauma or stress basically.
ReplyMaybe get something a bit more cuddle friendly I'd say but it's honestly up to you
ReplySnakes can actually be very cuddly. Them being cold blooded means that they enjoy being held by humans, or at least, the breed I've been looking at is known for being very happy being handled.
