what's a nice father like?

Make sure the issue is something important and not a petty disagreement. If you or your ex friend had a complaint about the friendship or something like that, it should at least be taken seriously at first. If it's politics or a disagreement in beliefs, don't let it ruin the friendship (you'll regret it). My entire family has a bunch of different beliefs (it's only gotten worse since the George Floyd murder) and sometimes my grandparents will call my young cousin a Marxist or my uncle will provoke an argument just because it's fun for him. But, at the end of the day, we all still love each other and can come together as one. Anyway, that's my roundabout way of saying that you shouldn't let this issue destroy the friendship itself (unless of course the issue relates to the friendship itself).
